The Corridor Project artist residency is situated in a landscape of rolling hills, sheep pastures and wonderful granite stones. In July 2026 I spent a week staying in the renovated shearers quarters making paper based artworks responding to place.
I thought I would be attracted to the giant stone outcrops where my initial mark making took place. But it was the 100 year old shearing shed itself which captivated my attention.
I loved the timber in it; the tree trunks that held up the roof, the wide planks on the doors and the patterning of the slatted timber floor. Most of all I was intrigued by the energy of the fleecing table, or skirting table where the roustabouts threw the newly shorn fleeces to sort out any impurities before they were put in bales and pressed ready for collection.
