Ice
“When a glacier melts, it’s memory disappears” ~ Oddur Sigurðsson (glaciologist)
Iceland held a funeral for the Okjökull glacier just before I arrived for my first artist residency in Iceland in 2019.
Ice, lava and melting glaciers explored in two artist residencies in Iceland in 2019 and 2022.
Thin Ice 2025 - 1200 cm w x 30cm h x 10 cm d, artist book, cyanotype images on rice paper, collaged and stitched
During my one month artist residency at the Fish Factory Creative Arts Centre, in Stöðvarfjörður, I experimented with cyanotype prints where the stones themselves become the negative /positive images. The cyanotype images of stones looked like the icebergs and sea ice I later encountered on my trip to Greenland.
Water
artworks created as a sonic landscape of water, paper pulp and birdsong
Research conducted into the sounds made during the process of making paper for my BVA Honours project Paper Song.
For this research, the sound of water dripping from a mould during the papermaking process was recorded. This sound was slowed down and played into water on a latex covered speaker.
The fractal type images were photographed and turned into a series of screenprinted and collaged artworks
These water /sound images were screenprinted onto banana paper and collaged together. They were included in the exhibition Eco-Sublime in Taiwan, 2017.
