I often get stuck when I’m trying to title my artworks. Sometimes you have to wait for the title to present itself, with often surprising results. Marking Time is a mini artist book which needed to take its own time to reveal its title and what it really is about.
Liberation comes in many forms. Mine came from tearing up years of my Morning Pages journals and immersing them in a vat of water ready to turn into paper. Not only the start of a new project but also a new way to look at the impermanence of life. That when things feel too hard to bear, “this too shall pass”.
Post operative recovery takes time and endurance. I find myself living in a liminal space where I ponder the nature of time. How to experience a minute, which seems so short yet can be a long duration when filled with pain.
I have many artworks which are in a state of pause. Projects that lie dormant in my “waiting” drawers, unresolved, needing some special spark to activate them. Waiting for me to ask the right questions to reveal a deeper narrative.
How do you make time work for you? This might mean synchronising with your body clock to create extra time so that particular tasks are done when you are most focused and alert. When there is a big job to do, like getting ready for an exhibition, you need to create time in abundance.
