How do we respond to accelerated change?. Everywhere we look the world is in a state of flux. This can bring on great anxiety or it can be seen as a time for new possibilities to emerge. As artists we can search for the seeds of renewal within the chaos all around. What we think is fixed and immobile is often only one state of being. Even the stones on mountains and the trees themselves move.
I’m drawn to rocks for inspiration, especially the bedrock upon which we build the structures of our lives. Looking closer, it is the striations and seam lines, the tiny holes in the rocks that are the most interesting. The cracks where change is most evident, bringing elemental forces in play.
I believe that all change starts with one person. When we become happier within ourselves, more creative, more grateful for our lives, we are able to share this joy and happiness with others. So the ripples spread and we might touch one person, in turn they touch another and so change spreads, one person at a time.
