It’s always an exciting but a bit nerve wracking time when you get to the installation phase of an exhibition.
The publicity is out, the gallery is empty and you have the creative space in which to show off all your hard work for others to view, appreciate and maybe (hopefully) buy for their own houses.
Tomorrow is installation day for my exhibition Fire & Ice at The Field, in Murwillumbah. It’s a small ARI - Artist Run Initiative which provides an intimate, pop up exhibition space especially suited to new and experimental work. It’s going to be perfect - especially when its evening and the snow lights are glowing.
My artworks are all stacked up on my bench ready to pack into the car along with tools and essential items.
Here’s a checklist for what I pack that you might find useful:
framed artworks
unframed artworks
freestanding sculptures
works to pin on the wall
videos, cards or merchandising
large spirit level
builders tape measure
stanley knife, fishing wire, pins
spare batteries for lights
snacks & water (essential)
I have a plan in my head where everything will go and I look forward to seeing it all hung together for the first time in a space where the works will talk to each other and immerse the viewers in a Fire & Ice experience.
Then I’ll also need to get the opening night refreshments organised adhering to the Covid restrictions.
There’s a lot of organisation and it’s wonderful that I will have the gallery curators on hand to help with an impartial eye and a calming presence. Wish me luck!
