I have spent the past five years pushing myself to my limits, learning, exploring life as a entrepreneur, creating art and returning to writing again. At the end of 2023 I have emerged stronger in my art practice, knowing that living as an artist means embracing all of who you are. The only thing constant is change.
This is the year I have given myself permission to design the life I want to lead my way and to encourage others to do the same. As I do this I become clearer in how I want to work, what I want to create and how important travel and adventure are in keeping my inspiration alive.
It’s coming up to the end of another huge year and time to start planning my Year in Review. As an artist and an entrepreneur, I think it’s really important to look back on what has happened during a year, to see the ideas, themes and events which have shaped my thinking.
Artists residencies can propel you forward in your art practice. This month I finished my fourth artist residency in four years and reflect on the top #10 lessons I’ve learned from all four.
When the world went into lockdown and my travel plans were cancelled, I brought the world to me. The view outside my window became a portal into the chaotic world outside and my daily lives on social media helped inspire others to keep creating through crisis. I learnt that home can be the best source of inspiration.
I’ve never really had new year’s resolutions. However this year I am making an effort to eliminate the word ‘just’ from my sentences. This one little word ‘just’ is yelling at me! Stop using me, it says. Don’t be afraid to be bold. Stand in your power.
